In the Orthodox tradition it is known as the "Prayer of the Heart" and it is prayed repeatedly to accustom our hearts to the awareness of Christ's continual presence in our lives. This awareness is what the poet and writer Scott Cairns refers to as, "the gate swinging open to the Kingdom of God."
