"I grew up in Pennsylvania Dutch country with images such as this distelfink, a symbol of happiness. In this case two heads with one body remind me of Jesus’ declaration that a man and woman come together to become one flesh. I decided to write the main body of the text in the handwriting of the nineteenth century, but relaxing the baseline of the letters to feel more animated."
